It all begins with nature!

What we believe at Curious Kids

At Curious Kids, we believe that a deep connection to nature begins in early childhood—through wonder, play, and hands-on exploration. Our nature experiences are designed to nurture curiosity, build empathy for living things, and encourage a sense of belonging in the natural world.

We create safe, gentle spaces where children can engage with real insects, natural materials and outdoor elements in ways that are developmentally appropriate, meaningful, and joyful. Whether they're watching a stick insect sway like a twig, touching the scales of a Blue Tongued Skink or discovering how insects hide in their habitats, children are learning through their senses and their natural drive to explore.

Our approach is guided by a few core principles:

  • Respect for nature – teaching children to observe, care for, and appreciate all living things.

  • Learning through curiosity – encouraging questions, exploration, and discovery at each child’s own pace.

  • Connection as well as content – fostering emotional and sensory connections to the environment, as well as focusing on facts.

  • Imagination and creativity – using books, movement, storytelling, and sensory play to deepen engagement and understanding.

We see children not just as learners, but as natural scientists, artists, and caretakers of the world around them. Through every experience, we aim to plant seeds of wonder and curiosity that grow for a lifetime.

We can all connect through nature

Meet Cristy – The Heart Behind Curious Kids

Cristy Froehlich is a passionate nature educator, artist, photographer and lifelong explorer of the natural world. With a background in early childhood and a deep love for Australia’s unique insects and wildlife, Cristy created Curious Kids to share the magic of nature with little ones in a hands-on, joyful way.

For Cristy, Curious Kids is more than just an educational program—it’s a personal mission to spark wonder, nurture empathy, and help children build a lasting connection to the world around them. Watching a child gently hold a stick insect, spot tiny details, or notice the colours of skink scales - reminds her of the incredible power of curiosity—and how it can shape the way we see and care for the planet.

Through every encounter, Cristy hopes to inspire children (and the grown-ups around them) to slow down, look closer, and rediscover the beauty that’s right outside our doors.
